It's almost that time of year...where the leaves begin to change colours, you have to actually do 30 km/hour in school zones, and white girls everywhere rejoice in Pumpkin-Spice-flavoured-everything. Fall! My second favourite season (winter is the best, we all know it). We see a huge amount of inquiries in September form home owners looking to renovate their homes, now that the kids are back to school & thoughts of the upcoming Holiday Season creep into their minds.
If summer is patio season, fall is definitely kitchen season. We always see a surge of kitchen renovations as people begin to turn their minds to the upcoming cold weather (and hence a need for soup), holidays (how am I going to cook for this many people in my current kitchen?), and the fact that we are stuck inside our homes for months on end (as a self-described introvert, I'm 100% okay with this).
If you're looking to renovate this fall, it's time to get planning! The process of designing, demolishing, and re-creating a new kitchen is no small feat. Make sure that you have a realistic timeline. The quotation process can take up to 2 weeks for a kitchen design, and then about 6 weeks to construct (give or take, depending on the size of your home). Cabinets, plumbing fixtures, counter tops, and tile all take time to order in as well. Fortunately, ordering these at the start of a job allows us to work in your home on steps such as demolition, drywall, and framing while we await the arrival of products. Give yourself (and your contractor) ample time to plan and execute your renovation. And remember, a rush-job is never a perfect job.
So why wait for cabinets & plumbing when you could simply scurry over to the hardware store and pick up all your supplies there? Let's just say...a custom kitchen is worth the wait! Custom cabinets will fit your home perfectly, give you the ability to add that spice drawer or pull-out garbage can, and have a warranty to resolve any damage or issues in the future. Plumbing fixtures that come from a direct supplier are also warrantied, as is any other custom product, including tile, glass, and counter tops. Want your hard-earned money to go towards something that will last longer than two years? Skip the pre-fab hardware store stuff & go with a custom renovation!
If you think it's too early to start planning for fall & winter renovations, just remember this: Costco had Christmas stuff out on August 1st. Yeah.
Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!
